Near-silent Survey Solution for Fisheries

Saildrone USVs are predominantly wind and solar powered. The result is a near-silent platform with a zero-operational carbon footprint capable of unrivaled acoustic surveys and enables accurate measurements of fish biomass.

Benefits

Transforming Ocean Access through Advanced Technology

Building from years of delivering successful mission outcomes for leading fisheries clients, Saildrone has developed a platform proven for fisheries-specific requirements.

Saildrone’s USVs complement traditional ship-based trawl surveys to augment and extend coverage for fisheries missions. The uncrewed vehicles cost-effectively ease the burden of data collection from personnel while providing a climate-friendly, low-carbon survey solution.

Saildrone’s fisheries solutions include measuring acoustic backscatter for fish stock abundance and sustainable fisheries management.

HOW IT WORKS

Your Mission is in Good Hands

01

Mission Planning

Saildrone conducts in-depth pre-mission planning with clients months in advance of a mission to customize vehicle configurations, discuss mission goals, and onboard clients to our Mission Portal.

02

Mission Execution

Saildrone oversees end-to-end mission management, including logistics, deployment, and operations. The Mission Portal enables remote monitoring for instant data assessment and adjustments to survey plans to meet client needs.

03

Post Mission

Post mission, Saildrone assumes responsibility for vehicle retrieval and logistical coordination. The raw, high-resolution data is downloaded and delivered to the customer.

Client Stories

Explore fisheries-specific use cases where clients have leveraged advanced Saildrone technology to meet their mission goals.

The USGS strives to continuously enhance the quality of our science by integrating cutting-edge technologies into our research. The data collected during this Lake Superior mission will help Great Lakes fishery managers make the most informed decisions possible to sustain the fishery.”

Peter Esselman

USGS Biologist and Project Lead

I think this is the first time that data from a USV are used in a formal stock assessment. This mission shows that Saildrone can do this operationally—reliably, quickly, and in the timeline required. This wasn’t a demonstration of what we could do in the future. We did this now.”

Fisheries Biologist at NOAA Fisheries and Project Lead for Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC)
